Janice Manwiller

Principal Technical Writer
Greater Boston Area
After a couple of years of using my English degree to eke out a living in legal publishing and television listings, I quit and got my MS in Technical Communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Since then, I've worked as a technical writer at mostly smaller software companies, including a couple of interactive television startups.

Over the years, I've come to focus on:

- Technical communication as a visual profession, both in the sense of using visual elements (graphics, diagrams, videos) to better present information, and ensuring that text can be visually parsed more easily.

- Seeing myself and acting as a developer that creates the information piece of the product, as opposed to creating the documentation that goes with the product.
